Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by a project, difficult task or from attempting to keep your life in balance that you didn’t know where to begin? I know that I certainly have. As a single parent, business owner and home owner (not to mention pet owner), there have been times that the thought of tackling everything I had to do in a day or a week was completely overwhelming. The secret I found, which is really no secret at all, is to take it little by little.
Every accompishment in the history of man, regardless of its size, had to be broken down into little steps. Just as ants will build a whole city filled with mounds and tunnels from moving just one tiny grain of sand at a time, so must we build our lives. People who are successful may seem to have accomplished things easily, but they were not given any magical powers that are out of everyone else’s reach. They are successful because they broke their goals down into little steps.
A person who is in great physical shape did not just get lucky. They exercise on a regular basis, watch what they eat on a daily basis and make time to care for themselves. It is scheduled into their day, it doesn’t just happen. The same is true for people who have successful relationships, whether with friends, their partner or their children. They have invested their time on a consistent basis in order to build those healthy relationships.
Rather than become overwhelmed by what seems to be an impossible goal or by all that needs to be done, break everything down into tiny, achievable steps. Whether you want to build your business, get in shape, or write book, you must break your goal down into little steps.
When I write my blog, I usually have an idea or topic I want to write about ahead of time. Today I had absolutely no idea what I was going to write about. I have had a busy week and several projects going at once, so I had a complete mental block. Then I realized I would approach my blog the same way as I do the other areas of my life, with tiny steps. I just started typing…one word at a time, one sentence at a time and one thought at a time. Now my blog is finished! You can take this same approach to every goal or project you wish to accomplish. Learn to value the small steps, even if at times they seem almost invisible, and before you know it you will have achieved your goals.
